The Hunterdon Coalition newly formed last year is made of up of representatives from the following communities in the county, Readington Twsp Tweksbury Twsp,Clinton Twsp, Califon, Lebanon Twsp,Union Twsp, Franklin Twsp,Bethlehem Twsp, Holland Twsp, and Kingwood Twsp., right now and are inviting representatives from other townships to join. We have a mix of officials and activists as members and have links with large environmental groups. The Coalition started because we have seen the real cause of over development in the area is not only the large developers moving in but also the local officials caving in when they didn’t have to. There are many great and very good local officials that are as frustrated as we were but now we have put together a mechanism that can wake up the people to what is really going on and actually be an ally of those officials that want to preserve our beautiful area.

What the most average residents in the county don’t realize is that while we were all asleep, there are individuals that have double interests that have gotten themselves into positions that advise our committees and planning boards to our detriment. These professionals have a vested interest in more development because of the simple reasoning the more that goes on the more they make. We have researched large areas of development and find that the same individuals are involved locally almost every time. Then there are the individuals that represent one township and then in another township represent the developer, this is not illegal but the old saying you can’t serve two gods at the same time is very valid. These problems we will actively bring to the public’s attention and let the public make their decisions as to who should be advising their planning boards and committees. There are many examples in the county where there are even officials who have questionable dual interests and these also have to be explored and exposed and the Hunterdon Coalition will actively pursue those goals.

We want to invite all those who are frustrated by the system to know we have built very good contacts in the State and with legislators and can advise and direct all who want to become active in their own future to contact us at our web site and we will give them the advice they need. We will actively expose myths about you can’t stop development ,because you can and we have many avenues people can go to protect their future and our tax dollars. Our web site will update where potential problems are and give a mechanism to voice opinion and in a short while we will be able to avail the ability of e-petition ,so as to be able to quickly put the demands of the people to the politicians and legislators.

The biggest problem we all have in the county is that of apathy and that can take money out of your pockets and out of your children’s education , over development will destroy your quality of life , increase your taxes, and eventually lower the value of your biggest investment ,your home.
